LICS VISIT MY MOSQUE
5th October 25
Despite tensions and fears in the communities this event was held at Wightman Road Mosque.
It was a strong cohesive event bringing all faiths and cultures together. It was an amazing opportunity to share feelings, experience, anxiety and concerns in a safe welcoming space.
Cllr Peray Ahmet, Leader Haringey Council, Rep. Deputy Lieutenant, Peter Baker, Borough Commander Marco Bardetti and MCB representatives supported everyone in this community initiative.
Words of support and encouragement were so needed and shared.
Haringey Multi Faith Forum, neighbours, Council Officers, our Police Teams and members of the community expressed their support for each other’s community at a time when there is so much Islamophobia/ anti semitism , fear and hatred rampant in the country.
Everyone was agreed that hatred has no place in our communities. It was beautiful listening to the children playing with loud bouts of laughter - possibly distracting at times!👏
Everyone joined Imam Kadir in a prayer of hope, unity , love and respect.
Many expressed their surprise that such an event was held and agreed it was so needed.
The fact that so many of a diverse background came together to learn about each others religion, share our stories and pray with hope for peace in mind was powerful. We all want the same thing.
Sister Bibi expressed thanks to all for attending and to the Sister Helpers who prepared and served refreshments.
She informed everyone of British Muslim Network who are dealing with Islamophobia reporting.
