THE GUYANESE WOMAN PRESIDENT

BIBI RABBIYAH KHAN: THE GUYANESE WOMAN PRESIDENT OF THE LONDON ISLAMIC CULTURAL CENTRE

As Muslims observe the month of Ramadan, we share with you the inspiring story of Bibi Khan, the first female President of the London Islamic Cultural Centre. Her father, from the Essequibo Coast, founded the mosque from his home in London after realising that Guyanese culture was not readily accepted at other masjids and there was hardly a place for women. When her father died in 2018, Bibi Khan became President of the Centre, but there were some who thought that the position was not one to be held by a woman. She persevered and was last year awarded with the Order of the British Empire.
